ABSTRACT

Encouraged by improvements brought about through partnering, these pioneers of more collaborative approaches have continued both to develop closer relationships with their partners and to further integrate project and supply chain processes. A number of these clients and their consultant and main contractor partners have extended the adoption of longer term and more collaborative relationships downstream of the main contractor, to include key specialist and trade subcontractors and materials and component suppliers. Using their leverage in their supply chains, frequent users of construction services have been able to successfully make the transition from project-specific partnering, through strategic partnering, and onto SCM as shown in Figure 12.1.
