ABSTRACT
WE SEE HERE, for the first time clearly, that the Cantos is a passionate effort to make sense out of history and current events, and to reconcile chaos and evil with the order and design of the Creator. An attempt, let us say, to justify the ways of God to man. The sole unity we could find, which we described rather vaguely earlier as due to the presence of a single author, is now explained. It is, quite simply, unity wrought by a strong enough desire for something to be so.
