ABSTRACT

This chapter is about mentoring in criminal justice settings. It discusses definitions of mentoring, the literature on the effectiveness of mentoring and the general literature on effective work with offenders. It then reports on a small study undertaken in four Australian nongovernment organisations, each of which provides a different style of mentoring to offenders. It discusses the programmes, how clients respond to the programmes, and highlights some aspects of the programmes including some differences between the responses of female and male clients.
