ABSTRACT

The state of Maine, USA has introduced gender-responsive transitions into the community, recognising the different pathways for women and men into offending and their differing needs from programmes to give them better outcomes. This chapter discusses these initiatives and how they might be applied in other contexts. The authors would like to recognise and thank the Maine Department of Corrections (DOC) and Volunteers of America Northern New England for their leadership and exemplary work with women, as well as their support for accessing data and relevant information to inform this piece.
