ABSTRACT

Innovating entails the use of the creative endeavour to find and then apply new ways of doing things (Cutler 2008b, 15). Creativity involves the origination of new ideas yet not necessarily their practical application. The distinction may be hard to maintain at points. For instance, if I think of a new way to provide a Web service and post those thoughts to a blog or my Facebook page have I simply been creative or can it be said that I have also been innovative? The important aspect to understand is that innovating relies on creativity to prosper. If we cannot promote creativity we can never hope to provide the opportunity for innovation (Schumpeter 1943, chap. VII; Cutler 2008b, 15–23; 2008a; Howkins 2001).
