ABSTRACT

This book has reviewed the margins of the globe that are created via the programs of development, modernization, privatization, commoditization, and free market economics embodied in neoliberalism. This examination of the margins was set up as the foundation for studying the processes of communication embodied in the politics of social change. What roles then can academics in communication play in global processes of social change? What is the future of communication for social change, especially against the backdrop of the increasing inequalities across the globe in response to the large-scale adoption of neoliberal policies? This concluding chapter offers some theoretical, methodological, and applied entry points for the students and scholars of social change to think about as they embark on journeys of working toward social justice, equality, and access. The emphasis therefore is specifically on exploring the work that can be done at academic sites and through academic engagement toward participating in the broader politics of transformative politics that’s taking place across the globe.
