ABSTRACT

The word “tradition” refers to a set of beliefs or practices common to and in current usage among a specific group. Beliefs encompass a worldview, cosmological concepts, values and ethics; practices or behavior include rituals and all forms of art, architecture, and literature. Tradition is an essential part of the living culture of people. Traditions usually pass from one generation to the next. Perhaps because of its longevity, tradition acquires a common identity with its respective social group and is deeply embedded in the culture. The fundamental principal or prerequisite for Islamic architecture is the Islamic faith upon which its traditions are built. Islamic traditions are based upon divine principals laid down in the Koran and hadith.
