ABSTRACT

The goals of termination activities for group members include the successful transition to life without the group, careful consideration of how group members will continue to take the gains made within the group and apply them to other areas of their lives, and management of appropriate and complete good-byes. Because the end stage of a group can generate intense and conflicting emotions, it is important for group leaders to structure terminations according to the type of group and the characteristics of members within the group. This chapter will address strategies and techniques that can increase the effectiveness of this stage.
