ABSTRACT
W e share Dan’s belief that language acquisition is an interactive process, and that actual data from many languages are needed if we are ever to understand the basically universal phenomenon that every child creates anew. Like Dan, we are students and admirers of Roger Brown, who inspired us to record and analyze what children and parents say as a rst step toward building the science of developmental psycholinguistics.
