ABSTRACT

In the preface of Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire (1921-1997) writes about a factory worker responding to a specifi c situation of injustice that was being discussed during one of the training courses that Freire conducted. Freire (1970, p. iv) writes that the factory worker said, “I can’t say that I’ve understood everything you’ve said just now, but I can say one thing-when I began this course I was naive, and when I found out how naive I was, I started to get critical.”
