ABSTRACT

Art and science are often viewed as diametrically opposed. Science seeks the true meaning of nature through a specific methodology while art recreates nature through myriad ways of seeing. Science is done in a fashion that allows it to be replicated by others, whereas art is often unique and many times cannot be replicated even by the same artist. Despite this seemingly wide gulf between the arts and the sciences, there are areas where the two interact productively. There are scientists who utilize art to assist them in their work and artists who use science in their creative endeavors. In their study of the Earth, geographers employ both art and science in exploring and explaining the world. One way is through the use of satellite imaging, or remote sensing.
