If the same question in the preceding quote was posed to an employee retiring in 2008 the answer would most likely come instantly and be: “Computers”. The reason is that information technology has been used to transform the role of the banker and his customer relations over and over again during the last fi fty years. This chapter will use the Swedish case to highlight some of these changes.1
