ABSTRACT

The Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania asserts that the family is the basis of society and the State. Indeed, for children, the family is a smaller society within the larger society, because it provides virtually their entire early experience of social relationships and communication. Furthermore, social, spiritual, moral, and psychological processes take place in families, helping to shape children’s personalities and their citizenship in society. It is therefore crucial to promote the health of families, because it is fundamental to the health of the broader society and to the healthy development and well-being of children (United Nations, 1989).
