ABSTRACT
This statement, from a major organisation representing Deaf 1 people in the UK, goes against the international and national move towards inclusive education. Currently over 85 per cent of deaf pupils in the United Kingdom are educated in mainstream schools (Lynas et al. 1997). Why are some Deaf adults against this practice and do the experiences of deaf pupils in mainstream classrooms refl ect these concerns?
