ABSTRACT

The year 1991 was pivotal in the economic history as well as the psyche of India. It not only marked the transformation in the political and economic ideology of the Indian government but also changed the way the world looked at India and how India looked at itself and the world. It showed India not only what was wrong with the Indian economy but more importantly, what potential it possessed to transform itself and the world if it became truly world class. In that sense, it was a moment of self-discovery for Indians and Indian enterprises.
