ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on cultural values and practices of Filipino Americans associated with caregiving for their elders. Patterns of family help seeking and shared caregiving are discussed as elements of Filipino American families’ holistic approach to the complex process of caring for an aging family member. Selected resources, suggestions for providers, and vignettes are included to highlight concepts, help increase cultural awareness, and contribute to skill building when working with Filipino Americans. Demographic and historical perspectives are included as background information on the Filipino population in the United States.
