Philosophical and Historical Foundations of Intercultural Education in Mexico

This chapter is organized in four main sections. In the fi rst section we provide contemporary defi nitions of Intercultural Education. Section two discusses the historical development of universal human rights. In section three fi rst we delineate the historical stages1 of IE in Mexico, and then we draw parallels between the history of IE and that of universal human rights; we end with refl ections about the road forward for IE in Mexico.
