ABSTRACT
The question came as a result of a group session I had with some high school students during a critical incident debriefing session during the 1991 Los Angeles riots. I asked the miracle question of the group and a girl chimed in that she would know a miracle had happened if “we had gotten past this stuff [the rioting on campus] and were singing.” So I followed up with, “And what would we be singing that would tell us the miracle was starting to happen?” She replied, “We would be singing ‘We Shall Overcome.’” So I suggested to the group that we try singing the song. The group responded and sang. It was a very emotional moment in a dramatic situation.
