ABSTRACT
Person A plays a surly teenager; Person B plays a counselor. The teen identifies a problem and the counselor suggests a reasonable solution. In the first condition, the counselor begins with, “What you should do is….” In the second condition, the counselor begins with, “I wonder what would happen if you….” Debrief with questions about the difference, beginning with the teenager’s point of view.
