ABSTRACT

It occurs to me that some clients want and/or need “empathy” more than others. Some would like someone to problem solve with them, stay on task, and be reasonable and polite. Others find solace in a shared expression of feeling. Others like plenty of mirroring (behaving in ways and gestures similar to the client’s) and others couldn’t care less. Some like their emotional tone to be matched and others seem to like the injection of humor to lighten things up or otherwise shift things.
