ABSTRACT

What can we learn from women leaders about the problems of collaboration in complex multi-organizational systems? Do they have something to teach us about how to share leadership and power? These are the questions we address in this study of women who work in schools or community colleges and who collaborate across these settings. Women may be uniquely positioned to think creatively about questions of collaboration and leadership because of their marginalized status in many organizations. As one woman stated: “Our campus is male driven; girls are not allowed to play. We have one female administrator. Is it to say, see we let girls in?”
