A Myth Vivisected: Grotowski's Apocalypsis
It is only the sum of these meanings that gives them import, and it is a many-layered one, a whorl of references full of deliberately pointed contradictions, enacted with absolute logic and clarity to the point where they dissolve into opacity. To borrow a term from painting, each scene in Apocalypsis employs broken color. Or, putting it another way, it has an arresting density, both of imagery and thought, which is the height of simplicity. It is much easier to understand this poem than to explain it rationally.
