Issues for HIV Prevention with Men who have Sex with Men: The Experience of MESMAC

MESMAC (Men who have Sex with Men Action in the Community) was a three year community development project funded by the Health Education Authority (HEA). The project comprised four sites in different parts of England (London, Leicester, Leeds and Newcastle upon Tyne) which were linked together by a national structure.1 Each site had a general brief to work with men who have sex with men (MSM) in relation to HIV/safer sex and other health needs, and a more specific brief of its own.2
