My first contact with the International Study Association on Teacher Thinking (ISATT) was at the 1986 meeting in Leuven, Belgium where I co-presented a paper with Professor Alan Brown, my then PhD supervisor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (University of Toronto). Leuven was memorable for its beauty, dignity and age. ISATT was memorable for feelings of validation, positive regard and the kind interest, friendship, approachability and humor shown by all in attendance.
