ABSTRACT

As discussed in Chapter 1, “The desired outcome with MBP cases, as in any form of child maltreatment, is the identification and protection of victims and the avoidance of false accusations. It is very important that MBP neither be missed nor falsely confirmed.” Effective legal involvement is necessary if victims of genuine MBP are to be protected and if erroneous MBP suspicions or allegations are to be identified and refuted. From earliest suspicion, those involved in an MBP case should consider the legal activities and issues that may arise. This kind of planning plays an important part in a thorough and appropriate confirmation-disconfirmation process and legal activities.
