ABSTRACT

Public concern about world poverty, equity and justice is often expressed through support for NGOs. Increasingly official aid agencies are collaborating with NGOs, drawing on their experience in participatory development and their contact with communities and civil society. Many aid agencies are seeking to use NGOs to deliver their aid programmes – both emergency and long term – and at the same time are placing new and more rigorous demands on NGO performance.
