A review of Parent Partnership Schemes

ByTeresa Furze, Anna Conrad

Many refer to the system of identifying a Named Person at the end of the statutory assessment process as ‘shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted’. Many schemes have recognised this and are endeavouring to pro vide and make available Named Persons from Stage Four. More need to consider the advisability of developing, befrienders /Named Persons at Stages One to Three as in Devon, and support groups for parents based in schools as in Knowsley, so that there is a continuum of support for parents.

One always needs to bear in mind that the number of Named Persons needed in practice will, to a great extent, depend on the quality of infor mation, support and advice provided by the professionals and LEA educa tion officers, particularly the Named Officer.
