A parental perspective on partnership

ByRobina Mallett

In this chapter I look at several types of partnership from a parent’s per spective. After considering inherent differences between professionals and parents I refer to factors which affect partnerships between individual par ents and the professionals concerned with their child. I do so by describing personal recollections of parent-professional relationships and their impact on me as a potential partner. Next I discuss what can be gained when par ents have parent colleagues (and so have partnerships among those who share their role). Finally I outline one model of a parent-led support service which has achieved some broader partnerships between parents and pro fessionals.
