ABSTRACT

Sidney Verba is the Carl Pforzheimer University Professor at Harvard University. Most recently, he received the Johan Skytte and Warren Miller Prizes for his work in political behavior. He is the author or co-author of many books, including Small Groups and Political Behavior, The Civic Culture, Caste, Race and Politics, and The Changing American Voter. Nancy Burns is associate professor of political science at the University of Michigan’s Center for Political Studies. She is the co-author of The Private Roots of Public Action: Gender, Equality and Political Participation. She has written a variety of articles on public opinion and voting patterns for professional journals. Kay Lehman Schlozman is chair of the Department of Political Science at Boston College. She is the co-author of both Voice and Equality: Civic Voluntarism in American Politics and of The Private Roots of Public Action: Gender, Equality and Political Participation.
