ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the potential of guided creative narrative reflection and metaphor in the professional development of enterprising individuals in business and nursing. It focuses on author's research experience with a set of enterprising individuals, busy nurses within a high stress environment. The chapter describes two guided creative and critical reflection processes that support the possible evolution of new knowledge that lies dormant within our life experiences. It demonstrates how this business worker's professional development conceptual framework, which uses narrative as a way to inquire, is potentially transferable to the nursing context. Engaging workers in a creative and critical reflective process provides opportunities to expand their professional development where they gain appreciation of their personal and professional stories of experience and the metaphors they hold. Our passionate interest in lived experiences as a way of knowing has made professional growth for business and nursing workers principal objectives for us.
