ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some aspects and highlights some strengths and weaknesses of the application of praxial philosophy to the practice of music teaching. One has to remember that philosophy is about values, and it isn't necessarily practical, but in the end one thing that is very essential is how and to what extent any philosophy works or could work in educational praxis. In order for teachers to be able to implement something new, say the praxial philosophy in their teaching, they need to become familiar with it and to study it. The public special music school programs is offered as an example for an implementation of the praxial philosophy, since there are many tenets of this philosophy inbuilt in them. In non-performance-oriented countries, the re-designing of curricula, teaching materials, and music teacher education would be required to implement praxial music education programs.
