ABSTRACT

Harold Enrique Eder is the fifth generation of the Eder Family that has worked for Grupo Manuelita, a family business group started in Palmira Colombia by Santiago Eder, an American citizen of Russian descent. Manuelita started as a sugar plantation, but now focuses on sugar, oils, ethanol, food, and other products. As the business grew, the Eder family began to buy the properties around them to incorporate them into the business. Don Santiago was a true entrepreneur that led the company through its first stages of development. Sugarcane was brought into Colombia in the 1540s as part of the Spanish Culture. Once planted, sugarcane expanded throughout the riverbanks and valleys of the Rio Cauca. In 1867, Don Santiago traveled to London on one of his business engagements. During this trip he met and married Elizabeth Benjamin. Seven children were born from this marriage: Henry, Charles, Luisa, Walter, Phanor, Fanny, and Edith.
