ABSTRACT

The Academy of Art formed at the end of the sixteenth century by Agostino, Annibale, and Ludovico Carracci in Bologna, integrated theory with practice in a manner that gave birth to a completely new pedagogical model for learning the art of painting. While microstudies of specific zones reveal that no one location is ever static, change to the city is especially notable following the fall of the Republic to Napoleon in 1797. Napoleon's campaign and subsequent years resulted in significant modification to the urban fabric. The 3D modeling of the assigned church and the skills developed to construct a historical model are the most prodigious accomplishments for the class as a whole. To complement the specificity of the portal project, early in the semester students attend an all-day workshop to learn how to model a church from start to finish.
