ABSTRACT

AfricanLanguages/Langues Africaines is published by the International African Institute as a vehicle for articles devoted to the languages of Africa. The journal represents an amalgamation and continuation of two previous language periodicals, the African Language Review (ALR) and the Journal of African Languages (JAL), both founded in 1962 and sponsored by Fourah Bay College and Michigan State University respectively. The IAI has been fortunate in securing the services of a distinguished board of editors for African Languages / Langues Africaines, including Professor Pierre Alexandre of the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, Paris, Professor Ayo Bamgbose of the University of Ibadan, Dr. Hazel Carter of the School of Oriental and African Studies, Dr. Kahombo Mateene of the OAU Inter-African Bureau of Languages, Kampala, Professor I. Richardson of the University of Dar es Salaam (formerly Editor of JAL) and Dr. A. K. Turay of the IAI (formerly Associate Editor of ALR).
