ABSTRACT
This essay, written after her return to Russia and her hometown of Rostov-on-Don, represents Spielrein’s considered opinion of the state of psychoanalysis and psychiatric treatment more generally, as observed from within the Russia of her period. It is a brief but fascinating glimpse into current issues in Russian psychoanalysis at its high-water mark, before the Stalinist purge.
