ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reflects the work of the research network in relation to this agenda in order to determine possible implications for policy and practice. It provides further evidence of the value of teachers collecting and engaging with evidence to explore the effects of their practices. Much of the research literature tends to view data generated through high-stakes testing as, at best, an irrelevance. The book adopts a different stance, choosing to view these data as offering one, albeit narrow, perspective on what occurs within a school. It highlights the use of different types of evidence to prompt change and inform approaches to school improvement, along with their associated challenges. The study described in the book explored the roles that research and researchers can play in helping schools to promote equity.
