ABSTRACT

In this study, with the distinct element method analysis in three-dimensional state, simulations of the true triaxial test for spherical granular material is carried out. In this analysis, we introduced a constant intergranular adhesive force that acts perpendicular to the tangential plane at contact point. The influence of the intergranular adhesive force on the SMP and the Lade failure criterions are examined. From the analytical results, it is found out that the stress states at failure for dilative and compressive granular materials shows similar tendency to the extended Lade failure criterion. This result means that the Lade failure criterion is applicable as the failure criterion for granular materials with cohesion.
