ABSTRACT

Although elastoplastic models can give accurate simulations of the behaviour of granular materials, they shown their limits when grain breakage occurs during loading. An elastoplastic model is enhanced to take into account the influence of this phenomenon. This is done by assuming that the critical state concept is still valid and that its position in the e-Log p’ plane evolves during the evolution of the grain size distribution. Thus, acceptable response obtained by this model can be achieved for a carbonate sand and rockfill embankment.
