ABSTRACT

There are both strong similarities and marked differences in detail between the biblical and the qur’anic accounts of David hearing a story about a little ewe lamb. Drawing on insights to do with the way the structure of discourse informs interpretation of detail, this chapter brings together the reading of each account in their own canonical context to explore shared and distinct interests. The simple exercise hints at common roots, highlights core theological interests, and leads to particular consideration of how each scripture presents the accountability of leaders.
