ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the trade data among the countries along the Belt and Road and reflects the importance of trade within the region. Trade between China and the neighboring countries has experienced the upward trend. According to data, China’s export to the neighboring countries accounted for 9.36% of its total exports in 1992. Bulk commodities constitute the majority of exports from the countries along China’s Belt and Road, which is analyzed in this report. Following the International Monetary Fund’s standard, bulk commodities are divided into four categories, namely food and beverages, energy, agricultural raw materials, and metals. China and the neighboring countries have complementary advantages. Establishing a win-win trade cooperation will bring about new opportunities for development. Cross-border Renminbi (RMB) financial service that serves trade and investment strongly supports RMB’s pricing and settlement in the trade along the Belt and Road.
