ABSTRACT

During the Gezi Park protests, a change began to take place in the course of the Arab Spring uprisings. The Western governments began to withdraw their support from political Islamists. The Gezi Park protests can be treated as a revolt led by a “multitude” that perceived the actions of the Islamist AKP government as an intervention in their lifestyles. The main concern for an important mass is that Turkey is being uprooted from its “Kemalist” roots and modernization process.
