ABSTRACT

Incidence of heart failure in STEMI is high. Ejection fraction provides valuable prognostic information and complication on short- and long-term mortalities in STEMI patients. Streptokinase therapy inhibits extensive infarction size. To understand relationship ejection fraction with segment ST-resolution in STEMI patients with streptokinase therapy, a prospective study was conducted at the ICCU of Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital. Consecutive patients with STEMI who were treated with streptokinase were recruited and ST-resolution and ejection fraction was examined. Relationship between ejection fraction and segment ST-resolution was analyzed. From a total of 10 patients, the result showed that there was no correlation between segment ST-resolution and ejection fraction. Our results suggest that an ejection fraction, as an indicator of changes of cardiac function (heart failure), may not be useful for early stratification in reperfusion therapy after STEMI.
