ABSTRACT

This study aimed to observe and describe the use of medication during pregnancy. All women ≥18 years presenting for their pregnancy up to 40 weeks and attending the antenatal clinics at three hospitals is Surabaya were invited to complete a questionnaire that contained 20 items. The participants (n = 422) had a mean age of 29 years. Most participants were born in Surabaya, had university education, were nulliparous, had a national health insurance and were nonsmokers. Of these participants, 148 (35.1%) were using medication during pregnancy, either by prescription or purchased over the counter. About 4.3% of pregnant women are reported to have chronic diseases such as asthma and hypertension. Only a few women reported used medication during pregnancy.
