ABSTRACT

Theoretically the role of civil society (CSOs/NGOs) can only be effective when the country is governed by the people and for the people. In recent years the role of CSO/NGO has increased. This is mostly because CSOs/NGOs follow service-oriented approaches, based on the principles of collaboration, openness, strategic alliances and the development of the network’s capacity. Having a very short history in full operation, Nepali CSOs/NGOs have been playing a critical role in the nation’s development. This chapter shows the contribution and role of CSOs/NGOs in social change through public service delivery, advocacy, environmental, economic, political and social development, and transformation.
