ABSTRACT
The mediastinum is located between the two pleural spaces. It is bounded by the thoracic inlet superiorly and the diaphragm inferiorly and by the sternum anteriorly and the spine posteriorly. Tumors of the mediastinum are a heterogeneous group of benign and malignant masses that can arise from the different structures located in the mediastinum. Based on the anatomy, the mediastinum can be divided into three compartments.
