ABSTRACT

Winter cress, also known as yellow rocket, is most commonly found growing wildly in winters but its cultivation has been noticed in kitchen gardens in the countries like Canada, Russia and North America. Winter cress leaves provide a good amount of calcium, potassium, phosphorous and vitamins A and C. The winter cress is used to prevent scurvy disease caused due to the deficiency of vitamin C and to cure peptic ulcers. Winter cress is a dicotyledonary annual herb for the purpose of greens production and biennial for seed production. Winter cress is primarily a cool season crop resistant to frost. Bolting is an undesirable process of developing seed stalk except where the crop is raised for seed production. Bolting in winter cress is not a photoperiodic response though it is a low temperature response. The yield of winter cress depends on several factors like type of cultivar, growing season, soil and cultural practices followed during its cultivation.
