ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an evaluation of existing modeling software used in the additive manufacturing (AM) process. Modeling software is important because before AM can be employed, the object desired to be created requires modeling in computer-aided design software. To effectively model AM processes, the software should be able to model heat transfer, stress analysis, fluid flow, chemical reactions, melting, solidification, and phase change. The COMSOL Group provides software solutions for multiphysics modeling. Design environment for forming is an engineering software that enables designers to analyze metal forming, heat treatment, machining, and mechanical joining processes. Engineering systems international offers a broad range of software and services tailored to meet the industry's needs of product and process development. The Rapid Prototyping Center is equipped with software for solid modeling and part design of new components, in addition to reverse engineering of existing parts.
