ABSTRACT

In the Executive branch, there is the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), whose Director serves as Science Advisor to the President and also is responsible for the White House Science Council. The National Science Foundation has the National Science Board and a plethora of other program advisory committees—similarly, with the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Bureau of Standards, and others. The National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering prepare numerous reports on many matters pertaining to science and technology for both the Congress and the Administration. There is also the Office of Technology Assessment, the Congressional Research Service, and even the Government Accounting Office providing advice or information on scientific and technical subjects. In addition, many scientists and engineers make individual visits to many Congressmen and their staffs to "advise" them.
