ABSTRACT

This chapter explains to overcome the limitation via the ability to collect and analyzes data collected through naturalistic observation rather than by relying on self-report data. It suggests that workers spend substantial amount of their workday communicating information and also tend to engage in multiple communication events simultaneously. The chapter examines the support for the idea that the organization rather than the individual has become the nexus of communication for the successful completion of work tasks. It explores the design engineers and technical professionals were observed in their places of work as they completed their daily responsibilities. The advent of multiple communication media and communication technologies permit the workers to behave as though they are working in a group when in reality they are sitting alone in their individual cubical. A proper understanding of the role of communication will assist in improving all aspects the 21st-century organizational experience.
