ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the effects of socio-cultural, economic, and environmental impacts of faith tourism on the life satisfaction of Mashhad's residents. Mashhad has long been regarded as a politically and economically influential city in Iran, but is mostly famous for its hosting of the shrine of the eighth Shiite Imam Reza. Faith tourism, in relation to Islamic roles and policies at various levels of governance, is one of the most developed forms of tourism in Iran. The fuzzy set/qualitative comparative analysis results introduced a combination of the predictors, economic and socio-cultural impacts of faith tourism, as complex conditions leading to the life satisfaction of the residents. Residents perceived positively the socio-cultural impacts of faith tourism as a driver of their life satisfaction. The chapter addresses three research questions: What are the sufficient conditions of residents' life satisfaction? What are sufficient complex configurations indicating life satisfaction? and What are the necessary conditions for achieving residents' life satisfaction?
